Charlotte 49ers vs UTSA Roadrunners Preview

The Charlotte 49ers are looking to win again. It has been a long time since the 49ers finished off Presbyterian to begin the season with the two game winning streak. Ever since the 49ers have lost games just about every way imaginable. They have given away games (FAU), been blown out (MTSU), lost close late (ODU), and lost decisively to a nationally ranked team (now) Temple.

They are winless in the conference, but there is a good chance in tomorrow’s opponent. The UT-San Antonio Roadrunners come into town. They are 1-8 with only a win against the UTEP Miners. They also have lost close and big to some of the same competition faced by the 49ers.

The only advantage of the Roadrunners in the next game is the profile of their coach. The Roadrunners are coached by the National Champion Larry Coker. Yes, that Larry Coker. The man who guided Miami to the 2001 title and then took them back to the 2002 title game. After that it was all downhill from there, and now Coker is leading the UTSA program. He built the current team from their first season, basically he was where the 49ers are three years ago.

So the 49ers could take advantage of at least having a big name opponent even if they are not playing the Coker teams of yesteryear. And get a conference win while we’re at it.

Opponent: Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners (1-8, 1-4 CUSA)
Date: November 14

UTSA leans toward its passing game to move the ball, so the plan for the Charlotte 49ers will look familiar to plans that it has used throughout the year. Run the ball and control the clock. Don’t turn the ball over. Let Kalif Phillips get past a thousand yards on the season. Score touchdowns and not field goals.

Prediction: 24-20, Charlotte
