Week 10 Amway Coaches Poll: Heels #21, Duke Out
The Amway Coaches Poll has a new member in Week 10. That would be the North Carolina Tar Heels after their victory against the Pitt Panthers on Thursday Night. The Tar Heels have not been ranked all season despite several appearances in the others receiving votes section.
Unfortunately the Tar Heels are the only Coastal Division team to be in the poll. Pitt of course fell out after losing to the Heels. The Duke Blue Devils also fell out of the poll after suffering their bizarre defeat to the Miami Hurricanes, a defeat so bizarre that the ACC has to decided to take action against the referees who were responsible.
That loss prevented a battle of two ranked teams battling for the Victory Bell next week, something that has not happened in ages and will not this year.
North Carolina’s road from its debut spot at #21 (also #21 in the AP) to higher into the poll is rather limited. Beating Duke next week won’t carry quite the same weight. Duke is the highest ranking team left on the schedule. The College Football Playoff Rankings (which mean nothing) will come out tomorrow and give a better idea of the environment.
Appalachian State entered the others receiving votes sections of both the Coaches Poll and AP Poll. The Mountaineers will probably gather more votes if they appear to be the eventual Sun Belt champ. After the joust with Troy, that is not so clear.
