FBS Scoreboard: College Football Week 9

The FBS Scoreboard for Week 9 is full of all kinds of nonsense. There is more clarity in the ACC Coastal Division for once, but it took an interesting route to get there. Some teams gave away treats while others were full of tricks. Surprises took all forms.

Thursday – 10/29

North Carolina Tar Heels 26, Pitt Panthers 19

This win was a showdown between the two top records in the ACC Coastal Division. Victory secured North Carolina the top spot in time for its rivalry showdown with Duke on Homecoming. The Tar Heels seized the game early and held that lead despite Pitt adjustments at the half. Another big game for Marquise Williams on the offensive end.

Friday – 10/30

Wake Forest Demon Deacons 19, Louisville Cardinals 20

Something about Louisville brings out the best in the Deacons. They got a safety in this game and scored on a long pass play from freshman Kendall Hinton to receiver Cortez Lewis led to an early 10-0 lead. Louisville crawled back into the game courtesy of five Wake Forest turnovers including four interceptions. The Deacons waited a day early to hand out candy.

East Carolina Pirates 13, Connecticut Huskies 31

This score made me cringe and was a result of ineffective play from the quarterback position. Like Wake, they threw four interceptions. On the other side of the ball, the Huskies pounded the Pirates with a running game led by Arkeel Newsome. Newsome had 179 yards and two touchdowns. One of those runs was for ninety yards. Pirates need to parley before the next one.

Saturday – 10/31

Charlotte 49ers 10, Marshall Thundering Herd 34

This one could have been worse. As it was, Marshall was led by a 486 yards passing day from Chase Litton. That set a pace that the 49ers just could not keep up with. Kalif Phillips put in another solid effort in defeat with ninety-nine yards of rushing.

Appalachian State Mountaineers 44, Troy Trojans 41

Another team that nearly let one get away. Troy had shown little all season but their passing offense seemed to find something it liked against App State. This game needed three overtimes to sort itself out, but the Mountaineers remained undefeated in the Sun Belt. Marcus Cox ran for 140 yards while rush end Ronald Blair returned a pick for a score.

Duke Blue Devils 27, Miami Hurricanes 30
