Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs Louisville Cardinals Preview

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have gotten gashed the last two games by their old rivals, the North Carolina Tar Heels and the NC State Wolfpack.

The good news for the Demon Deacons saw most of the damage done in a single quarter. The Tar Heels scored 29 in the second quarter while NC State scored 28 in the first. So if the Deacs can eliminate the one bad quarter they can go back to being the team that met Boston College punch for punch and kept Florida State up at night.

Nor is their track record that bad against their next opponent. Wake Forest was able to dirty it up against Louisville last year and keep that game close going into the second half. This year’s Louisville team is not as good as last year’s while this Wake team is better than last year’s. Will it mean anything at all?

Opponent: Louisville Cardinals (3-4, 2-2 ACC)
Date: October 30 (Yes, today)
Time: 7:00 PM
TV: ESPN2
Venue: BB&T Field

Wake now has quarterback John Wolford back, but their run game is still non-existent. Backup quarterback Kendall Hinton still leads the team in rushing at this point in the season. We see might a little bit of Hinton, but the Demon Deacons are trying to run the offense around Wolford.

Whoever plays at quarterback, it will be a good idea to hit Cam Serigne early and often. The sophomore tight end has been pretty clutch so far this year.

Louisville will be hoping score a bit more than they did last year to put this game out of reach. That is what Bobby Petrino teams do, score. Wake needs to suppress that score to have a chance to win this game. Brandon Chubb and his brethren need to block up the run lanes to give Ryan Janvion and the secondary a chance to shut down the receivers. If the Cardinals can run, then the game may well be over.

Prediction: 30-10 Louisville
