2. The fit is not that bad
Any conversation about Carmelo Anthony would have to start with tremendous offensive player, but ball stopper. The ball goes into Anthony and it is not coming back out except as a shot attempt. For the offense starved Hornets, that would not be so bad. Anthony brings instant legitimacy to the perimeter game and defenses could not sag on big Al Jefferson quite the way they do now.

  • The trick is to keep Jefferson involved in the offense. This is where the pressure falls on Kemba Walker. The point guard would have to understand that Jefferson was still the number one option on the offense. Ball should go inside first. If that is completely covered, then ball can go to Carmelo. Once Jefferson has the ball, he should understand that we just gave him the best bailout option he could hope for and not force things where he does not have to.

Obviously the problem is defense. Anthony is an underrated rebounder, but he would have to become a better defender to play in the Steve Clifford system. The Hornets could not afford another defensive liability with Kidd-Gilchrist out.
