East Carolina Pirates: Time to Panic?
2. ECU’s offense is turning around

The Towson game was pretty un-ECU like in offensive production. To be fair ECU was playing a new quarterback who was a last minute replacement for the new quarterback they thought they would have. He was being given plays by a new offensive coordinator. It made sense to let Chris Hairston rule the day in that situation.

In the two games since, quarterback Blake Kemp has begun to look like a real quarterback. Against Florida he delivered on 63% of his balls for 333 passing yards and three touchdowns versus one interception. Against Navy his production was similar, increasing his efficiency to 74% and throwing for three more touchdowns and a pick. Kemp was running the offense, they were just too far behind from defensive issues.
The other beneficiary of Kemp’s evolution has been wide receiver Isaiah Jones, who has had two hundred yard receiving days in the last two games. While Jones has yet to emerge as a red zone threat, his increased production should draw coverage and open up the rest of the field.
