Tiger Woods is coming to Greensboro. That might have been bigger news a few years before, but Tiger Woods has committed to playing in the Wyndham Championship. The Wyndham is the last tournament in the FedEx Cup regular season. After it comes the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Right now Woods is still trying to make the cut at the PGA Championship. Play was suspended today with Woods still having to play five more holes. He is two away from the projected cut line, which means that he has plenty of work to do tomorrow to keep playing in the season’s last major.

Still, the attraction of having Woods come to Greensboro should be a boost for the tournament. For many people Tiger Woods still defines modern golf. This is despite the trouble that he has had with his game and the fact that he has not won a major since his one-legged victory at the US Open in 2008.

Woods has never played in the Wyndham before as the tournament falls just after the PGA Championship. It is popular with players trying to make a move in the FedEx Cup Standings. This is the angle that Woods will be looking at. In fact Tiger may well need to win the tournament outright in order to qualify for postseason play.

The other story line will be how Woods’ game looks now versus how it looked at the beginning of the year. Tiger has been tinkering his own career, and that is true especially now as he tries to get his command back. A person going to see Tiger in Greensboro should understand that they will not see the Tiger of old barring some revelation. However there is a story worth watching as he tries to figure it out.
