1 Seed JOHN FOX over 9 Seed Dan Morgan

Morgan’s injuries played a role here, but not as much as Fox’s coaching. Fox brought high level achievement to the Panthers that has not yet been matched. Like many coaches, he only lasted as long as his quarterback did. The Panthers losing Delhomme is one the clear markers that brought down the Fox era. He kept up his craft longer than Morgan did.

4 Seed JULIUS PEPPERS over 5 Seed Dan Henning

If the Panthers had kept Henning on board for the last Fox playoff, this would have been closer. Instead he must yield to the Pro Bowl defensive end on that very good Panthers defensive line. Sadly, Peppers left when the line was in transition or else he might still be playing in Carolina.
