1 Seed JOHN FOX over 16 Seed Travelle Wharton
The Cardiac Cats. Strong defensive lines and running the ball. These are all hallmarks of John Fox. He never pulled off two winning seasons in a row, but he was longest tenured coach in Carolina Panthers history. He has plenty of more impact than Wharton did.
9 Seed DAN MORGAN over 8 Seed Jon Beason
This one was very very close. The thing that got Morgan over the top was his Super Bowl performance where he collected twenty tackles. Any playoff success would have perhaps gotten Beason to the next round. Morgan ekes it out.

4 Seed JULIUS PEPPERS over 13 Seed Stephen Davis
This is a matchup of a one season wonder versus a more productive career over time. Peppers was the Defensive Rookie of the Year and a multiple Pro Bowler during his time in Carolina. He was the last man standing of the Rucker-Buckner-Jenkins-Peppers line and therefore had to do his last work for the team with developing players. Davis was indispensable for one year, the Super Bowl year.
5 Seed DAN HENNING over 12 Seed Todd Sauerbrun
Henning was quietly the brains behind the Panthers offense in its most successful seasons. There were a couple of neat events in the Jeff Davidson era, but Henning knew how to get the best of Jake Delhomme. Given the difficulties of losing Delhomme before a game with the Falcons, Henning created DeAngelo Williams as a single wing to keep the offense moving. Sauerbrun was too tainted to advance here.
