Seifert Region 1 Seed Steve Smith vs 16 Seed Chris Weinke

First Seed – Steve Smith

The region starts off with a player whose career barely started within the time period. Smith was a third rounder taken in the 2001 draft mostly for his return skills. The combative small receiver took that opportunity and ran with it. He matched speed and savvy to own the Panthers record books at receiver by the time he was through with the Panthers in 2013. Although his nature got him in trouble for time to time, Smith became an All-Pro and remains one of the most beloved Panthers ever.

Sixteenth Seed – Chris Weinke

I told you figuring out this region was hard. Weinke was a Heisman Trophy winner in college and helmed the Panthers as starter for much of the 1-15 season. He continued to serve as a backup quarterback during the Fox era and treated fans to preseason football displays. He makes the list as much for merely ending the Seifert era.
