Possible 1st and 2nd Round Picks For The Carolina Panthers
It is nearing that time of the year, when NFL draft prospects finally realize their dreams of playing professional football. The Carolina Panthers are looking to build on back to back playoff appearances, and they are looking to make a deeper run in the playoffs in the up and coming season. The NFL draft is where the best franchises make their teams better, for the long term, and this year features quite an impressive group of players. Below, I am going to go over some of the prospects that I am intrigued with, and why they would make a good selection.

Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami, Possible First Round Pick
Ereck Flowers is a prospect that has been linked to Carolina most of this offseason, when it comes to the draft. I took a look at some highlights of his game against Florida State University, and one thing is clear, he has the ability to be a solid OT, from day one, in the NFL. Flowers moves his feet well enough, and very rarely was he beat in the highlights I saw (yes these highlights did include his bad highlights as well). He is a big guy standing 6’6” and weighing 329 pounds, according to NFL.com. I think the way he moves, with all that weight, is a good sign for his future, and I also think he would solidify the Carolina offensive line.

Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford, Possible First Round Pick
The thing with Andrus Peat that makes him a good choice for Carolina, is his athletic ability at the OT position. Peat stands 6’7” and weighs 313 pounds according to NFL.com, which makes him a very big man, and around the same size as Flowers. I think both Flowers and Peat are at the same level of skill as players, and would be a solid choice, and a possible long term solution at the OT position for Carolina. I think Peat may need to focus a little more on his work ethic, seeing as he underperformed this past season at Stanford.

Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida, Possible First Round Pick
Breshad Perriman is a very fast receiver, and by fast I mean a 4.24 seconds 40 yard dash fast, according to NFL.com. He has gone from a possible second round pick to a definite first round pick, because of his blazing speed. Watching film of his games shows that he has the height, speed, and route running that any team would want to have. The one bad thing about his game is his consistency catching the ball, because he dropped a lot of balls in college. In my opinion, he would be a very good option opposite of Kelvin Bejamin, for Carolina, because he has the speed to demand respect.
Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State, Possible Second Round Pick
I think it is very important for Carolina to get a number two receiver opposite of Benjamin, and Rashad Greene could possibly be that player. I think Greene has some very good acceleration and he could, at worst, be a good return man for the future. He runs good routes, and he looks for the ball at the right times. He would be a solid choice for Carolina, if he is there in the second round.

Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn, Possible Second Round Pick
Sammie Coates is a good wide receiver, when he is consistent, but he is not a consistent player right now. Coates can become a true number two receiver, but I think if Carolina picks him, it will be to groom him into the number two receiver spot, not for him to start right away. He has the potential to be a number one receiver in the future, or at least he displays the talent to be one, if he puts it together. I would not be mad with him being picked by Carolina, because I see the talent he has on display in his highlights.

Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina, Possible Second Round Pick
I have been a fan of Justin Hardy since he beat up on my Tar Heels a few times in his career. He does not do one thing great, but he is like a jack of all trades, when it comes to wide receiver. He makes spectacular catches, he runs solid routes, and he can stop on a dime. He is neither slow nor quick, but he knows just how to play wide receiver. I could see him causing fits as a number two receiver, because he knows how to get open, and in the NFL that is golden, just ask Ricky Proehl about that. He is my favorite wide receiver, in terms of value, for where he will be picked at.

There you have it people, I know I focused on just OTs and WRs, but I think it is crucial that Carolina provide Cam Newton with protection, and play makers, to help this offense move the ball better. No matter what you hear leading up to the draft, remember that 99 percent of it is probably lies created by front offices to try to trick their rivals into letting a player slip to them. I think if Carolina solidifies their offense, and builds around Newton for the long term, that they could be playing in the Super Bowl this up and coming season. Either way, we all know, nothing is finer than being in Carolina.
