The Greg Hardy question has been answered. The Dallas Cowboys have signed Greg Hardy to a one year deal according to reports. Hardy officially will not be rejoining the Carolina Panthers as the Panthers said was impossible.
Other suitors, like the Atlanta Falcons, had also said they were not going to sign Hardy. Ultimately Hardy’s choice was between the NFC East Champion Cowboys and the NFC South cellar dwelling Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hardy’s deal is not as lucrative as the one he could have signed if he had not been involved in his domestic violence case. He will make about 750,000 in base salary, with the bulk of the contract being made in incentives.

Those incentives are based around number of starts he makes next season. If Hardy starts every game, his contact will be worth a beefy 13 million dollars. That is the same amount of money he made on the franchise tag last year for the Panthers.

If Hardy becomes suspended by the League for violating the conduct policy, then Hardy’s salary will be reduced from that 13 million number. If he is suspended for six games, the new league minimum for first time domestic violence violator, then his contract will only be worth about eight to nine million dollars total.

Hardy gets a fresh start with a playoff caliber team. When I mentioned possibilities for Hardy earlier, I did suggest that Jerry Jones might one of the owners who would take a chance on Hardy. That has now come to fruition. Hardy may have to move to the left defensive end to fit into the Dallas defense.
For the Panthers, they can finally move on from this sordid tale. They can utilize their cap room, as they already have, and try to improve the team.
