Greg Olsen has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Carolina Panthers for three more years. The contract is reportedly worth 22.5 million dollars over three years with twelve million dollars of guaranteed money.

Olsen believes that this will make him a Carolina Panther for the rest of his career, but there could a one more deal in his future. Olsen will be thirty-three in 2018, and should still be playing at that point. Of course there is no way to see into the future at that point.
There is no question that Olsen is worth the money. He has been the security blanket for quarterback Cam Newton since he arrived in 2011. His catches and yards seemingly increase each year, leading to his Pro Bowl season last year where he had over a thousand receiving yards.

Olsen is more or less a fixture around the city of Charlotte now. You can see him doing local endorsements, or hear him and Thomas Davis doing radio ads. Olsen’s family is also a part of things too, with Olsen’s fight to support his son’s rare heart syndrome.
This should also maintain Olsen’s fantasy value by continuing to pair him with Newton.

Finally, this is showing the Panthers making moves that no one will rave about. Yet these moves are important none the less. No doubt the Panthers wanted Olsen locked down in order to use that information in their negotiations with Cam Newton. Newton will be more likely to commit with Olsen securely in the fold.
The Panthers still have to wait three more days before attacking the free agency class that is out there this year. Still, it would not be hard to imagine the Panthers not making any big moves until after the NFL Draft. The Draft can serve to focus what veterans the team actually is looking for.
