This loss harkens to a problem that his Tar Heel team has been having a lot of lately. This team has been plagued with injuries. Before this one, the Tar Heels had already lost Luke Davis, Stilman White, and Theo Pinson to injury. Joel Berry has just returned from his injury, and Marcus Paige is still not quite sound from his own injury issues. Those injuries focused on the guards, Hubert is the first big to suffer one. This trend would prevent any long postseason run if it continued.
Hubert was one of two seniors on this team. He came in with Jackson Simmons, PJ Hairston, and James Michael McAdoo. Only Simmons is now currently on the team. This Tar Heel team is based of its juniors and sophomores. Hubert’s role has been one of post defender, being the fifth or sixth post man on the team. His defense was what got him recruited in the first place. This injury will likely end his Tar Heel basketball career.

Hubert had eighteen career starts over his career. He had seven points and twenty rebounds in games this season.
Hubert’s role was specialized enough that his loss should not deeply impact the rest of the Tar Heel season. He had relatively few appearances this year, fewer than fellow senior Simmons. The number of effective bigs in front of him has grown as well. Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks have been the starters most of the year, but the team has gotten capable play from Isaiah Hicks and also from Joel James. Therefore there just aren’t a lot of minutes that Hubert might have seen anyway.
Still, it always sad to see a career end on an injury. Good luck, Desmond!
