How good is Russell Wilson? That has never been an easy question to answer. The tower of power at quarterback is never quite stable. Saying who is better than who changes all the time. However it is to Russell Wilson’s credit that he has already beaten Peyton Manning in one Super Bowl and now has a crack at Tom Brady in the second. Those are the gold standards there.

Pete Prisco at CBS Sports did not do Wilson any favors by saying that Wilson was closer to Tim Tebow than he was to Tom Brady. Prisco said he was speaking to style, and this goes back to the idea that Wilson is a running quarterback. However he could have found better examples than Tebow if he was really trying to make a point.
The Tebow offense in Denver was designed similarly to the current Seahawks offense in that John Fox believed in running the ball and playing conservatively. Tebow, however, could not do the things Wilson does throwing the ball and that is a huge difference.
In his touch, Wilson does not have a lot of comparisons. One possible comparison though, is Brady. Both put balls places that balls should not be able to go. So what is Prisco talking about, more Tebow than Brady? Is it merely that Wilson does not have to stay stock still in the pocket to make things happen?

Collegiate experience is another thing that separates Tebow and Wilson. Tebow played quarterback in an Urban Meyer system that does pretty well with even third string quarterbacks. Wilson played in the run first system of Tom O’Brien at NC State and then run-hungry Wisconsin. Neither offense was the spread used by Urban Meyer. This means that Wilson played in collegiate offenses more similar to Tom Brady’s in Michigan than Tim Tebow in Florida.
It is also meaningful to point out that Wilson, like Brady, has worked relatively no-name wideouts. The biggest name was Golden Tate, who fled for the money of the Lions in free agency. Tebow? Mr. Prisco, Tebow?
