Greg Olsen Stars at Pro Bowl Debut

Greg Olsen may have been on the losing side of last night’s Pro Bowl but he made his catches count. Olsen had receptions on the game for fifty-two yards, but two of them were for touchdowns. Olsen scored the first touchdown of the game when Team Carter quarterback Andrew Luck found him from twenty-five yards out to score. Olsen later added to that by catching a shorter pass from Drew Brees.

Olsen might have been the fantasy player of the game had Denver wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders not also caught two touchdowns in the 32-38 thriller for Team Irvin. Sanders had eighteen more yards than Olsen did.

More from Carolina Panthers

This was Olsen’s first trip to the Pro Bowl and he made the most of it, since he was platooning with a number of receivers to get them all into the game.

Olsen’s teammate Antonio Brown put on a show with his degree of difficulty catches. Brown would be a great model for East Carolina receiver Justin Hardy.

Luke Kuechly played middle linebacker for Team Irvin and collected six tackles and an assist. None of the tackling was especially fierce from either team.

  • The Pro Bowl had some extra rules this year. Extra points were moved out to the 25 yard line and the goal posts were reduced in width by four yards. Team Irvin and Team Carter alternated possession at the beginning of each quarter. There were no kickoffs, each team got the ball at the opposite twenty to start a new drive.

There was also no blitzing, a rule that Team Irvin broke more than once. However only Von Miller was caught once doing it. Pretty sure Elvis Dumervil lined up at linebacker for one of his sacks, making that a blitz.

The real game is next week, the Super Bowl. Hopefully Olsen can find his way into that game next year.
