Johnny Manziel: Panthers Nation Denied His Greatness
What happened to Johnny Manziel? One of the bigger story lines was supposed to the second start of Manziel in the league after the 30-0 defeat inflicted by the Cincinnati Bengals. Indeed, one of the reasons I was excited to see my first Panthers game in person this season was to see what Manziel might do.

Johnny Manziel Went Marching Home
Not much, apparently. Manziel did little in the early drives when the Browns had the ball. Then he scrambled away from danger on third down. He was able to get wide for the only time in the game and could not beat Panthers defensive back Colin Jones to the angle and the first down. That became deadly certain when Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly crashed in at the end of the play and Manziel ended up out of bounds.
Manziel got up and then went back down. It was hard to tell why. Neither Jones nor Kuechly seemed to have rocked him that hard. Somehow, the Browns quarterback suffered a hamstring injury. Someone must have fallen on it, because it just looked like his wind got knocked out.

Brian Hoyer Redux
That was a blessing in disguise for the Browns, who got some big plays from Brian Hoyer. Hoyer got the Browns back into the lead at 13-10 when a blown coverage left Jordan Cameron open. No one found him again and he scored. Hoyer was unable to mount a second comeback when the Panthers scored again to make the final 17-13.
There was a second moment went defensive tackle Kawan Short planted Hoyer for a sack, which saw Hoyer get up slowly. Cleveland had no third quarterback on their roster, so they took a timeout in order for Hoyer to get his wind back.
So we were denied the ability to see if Johnny Manziel is really Johnny Football after all. Cleveland fans in Bank of America Stadium did not seem particularly impressed.
