Tyler Zeller and Brandan Wright lose the Rondo trade
Tyler Zeller’s season became less enjoyable over the past week. That is because the Boston Celtics made a major trade to help their future at the expense of the here and now. The Celtics sent point guard Rajon Rondo and rookie big man Dwight Powell to the Dallas Mavericks for point guard Jameer Nelson, forward Jae Crowder, power forward Brandan Wright, and the Mavericks first round pick in 2015.

Winners
The big winner was Rajon Rondo, who gets to go to a team that plays a pretty good tempo with lots of guys to pass the ball to. Rondo’s sometimes suspect shot will be limited because he will be giving the ball to Dirk Nowitzki, Monta Ellis, or Chandler Parsons.
Losers: Tyler Zeller and Brandan Wright
The big losers were Tar Heel alum big men Celtics center Tyler Zeller and new Celtics addition Brandan Wright. Both guys are big guys who run the floor, and they would match well with Rondo. Zeller loses him and Wright never gets to play with him. Zeller had averaged about 3 points a game more when matched with Rondo.

The Celtics will now get to find ways to use the two Tar Heel big men that did not play together in college. However their games may be to similar and they could find themselves platooning. Wright had developed his game for the Mavericks, and now we will see if the one time Bobcat draftee can hold his own without the Mavs support.
And Dwight Powell
Dwight Powell is a quiet sidelight to this transaction. The rookie was originally drafted by the Hornets before being sent to the Cavs in the Brendan Haywood trade. The Cavs sent him with Zeller to the Celtics in the trade to open up space for LeBron James and Kevin Love. Powell now finds himself in Dallas, and with his luck, he should not buy a house.
