Frank Alexander and Cam Newton: Panthers Updates
Defensive end Frank Alexander of the Carolina Panthers has returned to the team after serving a suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. Alexander has served fourteen games for two violations. He’s lost most of this year’s salary already and has none of the experience that has been collectively gained by Kony Ealy, Mario Addison, and Wes Horton.

Frank Alexander Saves the Season?
Will Alexander be able to contribute right away? Will he upgrade the Panthers at an important position? I think it is probably too little too late for Alexander this season. There are only two games left and it will take more time for Alexander to be game ready. If the Panthers could make the playoff then maybe he would be ready at that point.

Newton Must Protect Himself
Coach Ron Rivera had a press conference today to talk about Cam Newton. Well really Rivera was supposed to talk about the Panthers, but he was largely asked about Cam Newton. Rivera’s line on Newton was that the Panthers would play him when he was ready. According to Rivera, that moment will be when the coach is certain that the Panthers starting quarterback can ‘protect himself’ out there.
Cleveland’s performance against Cincinnati could be an indication that the Panthers could get away with benching Newton for another game. However it is unreasonable to think that the Browns will play that poorly again even if Johnny Football is not really what people want him to be. The Panthers defense should pour over that Bengals game tape to see what they did.
Friends, Romans, Bear Fans…
The last duty of a Panther fan tonight is to pull for Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears. The Panthers need the Saints to lose in order to control their own destiny in the divisional race. The Falcons lost to the Steelers and play the Saints and us over the next two weeks.
