Charlotte 49ers: Raiding the Blazers?
The Charlotte 49ers finished their season 5-6 and are looking for ways to improve. This becomes even more important as the team moves into Division FBS next year. So where do you look for Division 1 FBS players? How about Division 1 FBS teams that are about to not exist and played in the same conference that you are about to join?

David Scott of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Charlotte 49ers are doing just that. 49ers coaches have been in Birmingham, AL talking to the players of the now former UAB football program to gage interest of those players.
According to Scott the 49ers secured a visit from the second leading tackler on UAB, Rolan Milligan. Scott referred to Milligan as a linebacker, but he is 5’11” and 185 lbs. More likely, it would be that Milligan played a rover back or something like that. ESPN lists him as a cornerback, which makes more sense. The picture above locates him squarely at linebacker. The more you know.
The 49ers have also got interest from two other former UAB Blazers.
Pulling players from supernova teams has worked for at least one other program in the state. The 2004 North Carolina Tar Heels took three players from the former East Tennessee State program. Of those players, safety Gerald Sensabaugh is the most notable. Sensabaugh had a NFL career after his one year with the Heels. Scott Brumett, the tight end, scored against Miami in the big 31-28 upset that year.

The 49ers are clearly taking stock of their roster and trying to be as ready as possible for next year’s big jump. Contributor running back Maetron Thomas was thrown off the team last month.
The 49ers are also targeting junior colleges to bolster their ranks. They already have two Butler College players from the Kansas Junior College system on the team, and they are looking at adding a defensive lineman.
