Anya glad you’re a Wolfpack fan? Pack wins BIG 79-43

I like this team. Last night NC State (3-0, 0-0) whipped the Jacksonville Dolphins 79-43 giving the home crowd of 14,438 an exciting fast paced frenetic entertaining brand of basketball. Most of all, the young men playing the game looked like they were having fun.

Similar to the can of whoop-ass that UNC was simultaneously opening up 25 miles down the road in Durham, the Pack dominated every phase of the game. This team has a nice balance of skill and finesse players; a bruiser, a couple of pit bulls in the middle and a long range sharpshooter ready to do business anytime anyplace. With quickness and speed at every position coupled with a good blend of youth and experience, this team thus far plays like new bottle of fine cabernet wine. Just wait until that wine has had time to age. This 2014 unit has pep, unlike the uptight play of some previous editions. They actually look to be enjoying themselves.

The Pack led the Dolphins 35-12 at the half. The accelerator remained pressed full throttle the entire second half. When the bench was cleared, I observed genuine excitement from starters cheering on their teammates to do well. Sophomore Beejay Anya blocked 4 consecutive shots during one offensive sequence for Jacksonville on his way to setting a NC State single game record with 10 blocked shots. In doing so, Anya surpassed Wolfpack greats Todd Fuller and Thurl Bailey who each held the record with 9 blocks respectively.

More from North Carolina State Wolfpack

Something tells me Coach Gottfried may know a little something we didn’t about his youthful team. While most likely still a year or two away from making serious championship noise, this team appears to be capable of doing some real damage this season.
