Russell Wilson’s Big Day
So it turns out that Russell Wilson is a special quarterback. Like you needed to hear that for some reason. The guy has a Super Bowl ring, came out as a recovering bully, and took over the starting quarterback job from a guy who was paid millions to do that job. So yeah, you probably did not need to be convinced that Russell Wilson was a special quarterback.

Over the past weekend though, Russell Wilson did something that no other quarterback has ever done. He threw for over three hundred yards and ran for over a hundred in the same game. According to an article by John Breech of CBS Sports, only three quarterbacks had gotten close to achieving that feat.
Unlike some lists, this list is occupied by the three names that you would expect. Randall Cunningham got close in 1989. Michael Vick got close in 2011. The last guy got close on two different occasions and is very near and dear to our hearts. That would be Cam Newton, whose most recent close call was his game against Cincinnati where he was 16 passing yards short. Interestingly, only Newton has won a game while coming close to the 300-100 club.

Wilson, the charter member of 300-100 club, also lost the game when he accomplished the achievement. That was the 28-26 loss to the Rams last Sunday. To Wilson’s credit, the record is not what he is focused on from Sunday. His attention was firmly on the L that now appears on the Seahawks record, one of three on the season.
This kind of achievement is likely to become more common as if NFL continues to go for a more spread out game that deemphasizes the running back. Running quarterbacks like Newton and Wilson can open up opportunities for teams by attacking the spread out defenses with their legs. There is a good chance Wilson will not be the last 300-100 guy.
