Carolina RailHawks Update: 10/7
Feels like I have been ignoring the Carolina Railhawks lately. So let’s see what they have been up since the last time we checked in with the North American Soccer League team.
RailHawks Sign Austin da Luz
It feels like the RailHawks have been hitting the transactions hard lately, and they continued this process by adding da Luz. The midfielder comes over from the USL and was a RailHawk captain once before in 2013. Da Luz played his collegiate soccer at Wake Forest, meaning that the RailHawks could field an entire side of players with local connections.

RailHawks defeat the New York Cosmos 5-4 on September 20
It must have been exciting for the kids on Kicks for Kids night to see so much scoring going on. The action was all in the second half of the game, compacting the scoring binge into a shorter even more exciting time. The 49th minute saw Devon Sandoval plant a Tiyi Shipalane pass into the net. Leo Osaki made it 2-0 in the 59th minute. Kwame Watson-Siriboe scored an own goal to bring the Cosmos back into it at 2-1. The Railhawks then pushed the score to 4-1 behind Enzo Martinez (65th) and Sandoval again (67th). Forward Zack Schilawski scored the final home goal at the 79th minute.
Then the Cosmos tried to come all the way back from a 5-2 deficit in the last ten minutes. They scored to two goals to add to the drama before time ran out on their comeback.

RailHawks lose to Ft Lauderdale Strikers 1-0 on October 4
RailHawks goalie Akira Fitzgerald had a great save of a penalty kick in the first half that unfortunately did not affect the ultimate outcome of the game. The Strikers scored in the second half and lightning delayed the game in the 87th minute. Despite 6 minutes of stoppage time, the RailHawks could not close the gap.
The RailHawks are currently 4th in the Fall Season standings. Combined with their Spring Season standings, they are 4th overall and would make the playoffs if the season ended today. Their next match is a trip to chilly Edmonton on October 12.
