The Week 4 AP Football Poll was released yesterday and all the action for local schools is in the others receiving votes section of the poll. The North Carolina Tar Heels sit just outside the poll, with the most votes of any team not in the poll. The Duke Blue Devils are right next to them, also poised to make the jump into the poll. The East Carolina Pirates were included in the others receiving votes section for the first time this year. For some reason, Virginia Tech still got more votes than the Pirates did this week.

The rest of the poll has a decidedly SEC tinge, with seven SEC teams present in the top 14. As the conference season wears on, this will probably change as those teams knock each other out. In the meantime, it is merely a ‘bragging rights’ issue. Remember that these polls do not really mean anything to the postseason.
BYU is up to #21 in the poll as the lone non-Power 5 member of the poll. East Carolina is the highest vote getter among the ‘Group of 5’ conferences now.
