Week 3 AP Football Poll Released: UNC Out
The Week 3 AP Football poll reflects how Week 2 in College Football turned out to be a big week. The Big Ten saw its relative power fall dramatically with losses to Oregon, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame, making me question if I undersold ECU’s chances in that league. ECU did not beat South Carolina, but a team from outside the Power 5 conferences did break the Associated Press poll. That would be the BYU Cougars.
Here’s the poll (as seen on Nick Bromberg’s article in Yahoo Sports)
1. Florida State Seminoles (No. 1 last week)
2. Oregon Ducks (3)
3. Alabama Crimson Tide (2)
4. Oklahoma Sooners (4)
5. Auburn Tigers (5)
6. Georgia Bulldogs (6)
7. Texas A&M Aggies (9)
8. Baylor Bears (10)
9. USC Trojans (14)
10. LSU Tigers (12)

A couple things to notice. One, Nebraska and North Carolina fell out of the AP football poll without losing their games. In the case of the Tar Heels, they were in the poll because they were the favorite nationally in the Coastal Division. Virginia Tech’s win over Ohio State has now caused writers to favor the Hokies over the Tar Heels, and give less incentive to keep them in the poll.
The ACC has the same number of schools in the poll as last week with UNC traded for Virginia Tech. North Carolina now has no schools in the poll with UNC being the closest in the others receiving votes. The AAC and Sun Belt Conferences had no members in the poll with Cincinnati being the only one receiving votes. ECU has a chance to fix that the next two weeks with games against Virginia Tech and North Carolina.
