Thursday – 8/28
Wake Forest at Louisiana-Monroe WarHawks
Time– 7:00 PM
TV– ESPNU
Wake Forest goes on the road to Sun Belt member Louisiana-Monroe. This is a return trip since the WarHawks visited Winston-Salem last year. This the first game for Coach Clawson and the first game for new freshman starting quarterback John Wolford. App State fans may want to check this one out since they face the WarHawks later this year.
Saturday – 8/30
Appalachian State at Michigan Wolverines
Time– 12:00 PM
TV– ESPN2
The Mountaineers return to the Big House, site of their colossal upset in 2007. The current set of Mountaineers comes in with less fanfare, but that won’t stop anyone from dreaming big. Michigan coach Brady Hoke is considered to be on the hot seat and cannot afford any slip ups.

Garnet and Cocky
NC State vs Georgia Southern Eagles
Time– 12:30 PM
TV– ACC Network (Raycom)
The Wolfpack also face a Sun Belt foe to start the year. It will be interesting to see the improvement in State’s offense. All eyes will likely be on starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Duke vs Elon Phoenix
Time– 6:00 PM
TV– ESPN3 (Online Stream)
Two private schools do battle in Durham. Elon is an FCS school, so it has fewer scholarships to play with. Ideally, Duke will be able to test drive its offense and defense without too much trouble. However, no one really know how a team will play its first game. A few mistakes, and Elon could be right in it. This is also the first look at Duke without Kelby Brown and Braxton Deaver.

Busting Brackets
North Carolina vs Liberty Flames
Time– 6:00 PM
TV– ESPN3 (Online Stream)
The Tar Heels welcome the Liberty Flames to Kenan Memorial. Liberty is facing similar disadvantages that Elon is facing against Duke, though Liberty’s coach is former Kansas coach Turner Gill. This will be the first look at how North Carolina uses its running backs and Ryan Switzer. It will also be a first look to see who starts on the defensive line.
East Carolina vs North Carolina Central Eagles
Time– 8:00 PM
TV– ESPNEWS
The Pirates start their season with FCS NC Central. Like Elon and Liberty, NC Central will be handicapped in terms of talent and personnel. Given the firepower of ECU, it’s likely that this game will not tell us very much about the Pirates. The biggest question mark is the offensive line, and it is unlikely to be tested by the NC Central front. If it is, that is a bad sign for later on with the Pirates.
