The Davey O’Brien Award – The Best Quarterback in College Football
Local Candidates:
Anthony Boone –SR –QB –Duke
Shane Carden –SR –QB –East Carolina
Figuring out who has the better chance to bring home this award between these contenders is not easy. Carden has the advantage of playing in a system that will pile up stats for him. Boone will play at a higher level of competition with more exposure. It also worth noting that Brandon Connette is no longer with Duke to take snaps away from Boone.

The Doak Walker Award – The Best Running Back in College Football
Local Candidates:
Marcus Cox –SO –RB –Appalachian State
The lack of local running backs is a product of spread offenses and teams that spread carries among multiple backs. Let’s not sleep on Cox though. He only ran for a team record 1,250 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns last year. This year he will be facing the rush defenses of the mighty Sun Belt Conference, so there will be opportunities.
The Walter Camp Award – The Top Performer in College Football
Local Candidates:
Shane Carden –SR –QB –East Carolina
Jamison Crowder –SR –WR –Duke
This award is yet another award for the best player in college football. Carden and Crowder are on this list because they have the potential to be stat collection machines. Carden, as mentioned before, plays in the Air Raid offense where he will be throwing constantly. Crowder will have roles as a receiver and a kick returner for the Blue Devils this season.
Now the watch lists are done, meaning it is time to start getting ready for the college football season.
