Duke Basketball Recruiting: Trey Lyles visits Louisville Cardinals

Football recruiting is all the rage with National Signing Day creeping up on us, but basketball recruiting is the main attraction in the state of North Carolina as far as college recruiting goes. The Duke Blue Devils are looking to assemble a solid 2014 class to back up their terrific 2013 haul, and Trey Lyles is one of their early targets in 2014.

The 6’10”, 235 pound power forward from Indianapolis is rated as one of the top five recruits overall in the 2014 class, so Lyles would certainly be an enormous addition for whichever team that lands him. Lyles is the consensus best player in the state of Indiana in the class, and he is likely the best power forward overall as well.

The Louisville Cardinals have been targeting Lyles closely, and he took an unofficial visit to the school yesterday after putting up a 22-20 line before following out in Arsenal Tech’s 65-59 victory over Warren Central.

Trey Lyles, a former Indiana Hoosiers commit, is also high on Duke’s watch list and the Kentucky Wildcats watch list. He has visited Louisville before back in late September and had an unofficial trip to Kentucky in October. During that time period, Louisville, Duke, and Kentucky (multiple times) all sent coaches to check in on Lyles. He is certainly getting top-five attention, and the five-star PF has also been getting looks from UCLA and Florida.

Butler, Michigan State, and Georgetown have also offered Lyles and UNC, Ohio State, Syracuse, Purdue, and Stanford have offered. Duke and Kentucky have offered Lyles, but the interesting thing is that Louisville has not offered him yet. We’ll see if Rick Pitino decides to match the Cardinals top in-state rival with an offer as well, because it seems like they have a solid shot of nabbing a pledge from Lyles down-the-road with an offer.
