Berry admits that he is a life long fan of the North Carolina program and now he will get to live a dream.
"“I told everybody North Carolina was my dream school all during my recruiting process. Now I get to fulfill my dream,” said Berry."
Berry is a 6 foot point guard that is ranked #12 overall and is the #3 point guard in the 2014 recruiting class.
He was in Chapel Hill over the weekend visiting the campus and team. He was in attendance for the Tar Heels’ game against Maryland on Saturday. The fans let him know that they support him and want to see him on that court in that jersey next year with chants of “Joel Berry…Joel Berry” being echoed thorugh out the Dean Dome.
Coach Williams and North Carolina had to out recruit the likes of Kansas, Ohio State, NC State, Florida and Florida State to land the 6 foot, 185 pound point guard from Apopka, Florida.
This is also North Carolina’s first recruiting committment for the 2014 class which will give North Carolina possibly the best trio if not duo (depending on Marcus Paige’s and/or Nate Britt’s professional admirations after the season(s) end.) in college basketball with Marcus Paige, Nate Britt and Joel Berry.
It also was important to land Berry after Shelton Mitchell’s commitment to Wake Forest, UNC’s ACC and in-state rival.
It wasn’t an easy task, but Coach Williams showed to all fans that he still can recruit the nation’s best!
