Football Recruiting: East Carolina Pirates land Marquis Wallace

The East Carolina Pirates received their 11th commitment from a three-star prospect in the 2013 recruiting class with a pledge from Pennsylvania offensive tackle Marquis Wallace. The JUCO star was once a member of the West Virginia Mountaineers as a signee before spending two years at the junior college level for Lackawanna C.C.

The Big East bound Pirates will have Wallace on two years of eligibility, and the 6’5″, 310 pound prospect certainly has the size to make an impact for the program. Highly recruited in this period, Wallace is one of the top 150 JUCO prospects in the class and is one of the four three-star junior college recruits in PA.

Wallace also received offers from Maryland, Houston, Pittsburgh, Texas Tech, Illinois, Kansas (Charlie Weis is trying to assemble and all-star class of junior college recruits), and USF. That’s a good list of programs, so East Carolina definitely received a big get when Wallace pegged the Pirates as his school of choice yesterday.

ECU received an official visit from Wallace in late October, and he gives their 2013 class four tackles overall. Wallace is the third best of them (just behind in-state recruit Brandon Smith), but the program’s top tackle recruit this year is Jonathan McLaughlin, who is a soft commit. The three-star prep OT has serious interest in Virginia and Virginia Tech, as he has taken official visits to both schools.
