Football Recruiting: Evrett Edwards visiting Duke

The Duke Blue Devils are looking to solidify the commitment that they received way back in March from three-star cornerback Evrett Edwards, as he is on his official visit to the school. Edwards is Duke’s second most valuable commit in the 2013 class, and there is a chance he ends up decommitting. There are several schools that he has not eliminated in his recruitment, with the rival UNC Tar Heels being the most noteworthy of them.

Edwards took an unofficial visit to UNC in late October after taking an unofficial trip to Durham early in the month. West Virginia is also involved in Edwards’s recruitment, which could be a big story in the state until signing day. He was a huge catch for Zac Roper and Duke out of Woodbridge Virginia back in the spring, as he is one of the top 30 prospects in Virginia in this class.

East Carolina, UNC, WVU, Wake Forest, Clemson, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Northwetsern, Pittsburgh, Purdue, and Penn State are all still in Edwards’s recruitment. It doesn’t seem like most of these squads have a good shot at landing him, especially since a decommitment is far from imminent.

At this point in time, the best guess is that the top 750 recruit sticks with Duke. There is a possibility he flips to UNC, but the most likely scenario is Edwards staying with the Blue Devils. In fact, it’s hard for me to see him playing for another team.

Evrett Edwards is a 6’0″, 170 pound athlete who translates best to the cornerback position, but he can also play at safety and wide receiver. He has great speed with a 4.42 forty and has good ball skills in the secondary. One interesting fact about him is that he speaks four languages. That’s awesome.

Recruiting Prediction: Duke
