- About -
Back when Joe Soriano covered the Carolina Panthers, he was frustrated by the lack of coverage surrounding the Panthers and almost every other sports team in the state of North Carolina. Not only did he want a FanSided blog dedicated to the Panthers, but he wanted to help start something more. Bryant Douglass, who currently lives in the state, shared the same passion for helping to bring to the fans the best in North Carolina sports coverage, and the simple idea turned into something more. A new site dedicated to all things NC sports.
People always talk about sports towns, but how about sports states. In their minds, there is no state in America that has more passion for sports, and it starts with the intense college rivalries in basketball. Who doesn’t love watching Duke and UNC go at it? And with N.C. State rising under Mark Gottfried, there’s even more great college basketball that’s being played in the state.
Then there’s the pros, and the faithful Charlotte Bobcats fans have been through the lowest lows that any team can suffer. And they still root for the team as hard as any other fans in the nation. Speaking of hard core fans, the East Carolina Pirates have some of the most intense followers on the east coast and will continue to gain more steam now that they are in the Big East.
The finest college hoops state in the country deserves more coverage, and that’s what Old North Banter strives to bring you. It’s difficult to be unbiased when covering five colleges in the Big Six (counting ECU) as well as an assortment of other programs (Gardner-Webb, UNC-Asheville, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, and Davidson), but that’s what we will do. Our staff is dedicated to bringing the best news and analysis regarding the three major pro teams and all the various colleges in one of America’s most scenic states.
But the sole focus of this site isn’t going to be about college sports either. There’s going to be plenty of content focused on the most popular team in the state- the Carolina Panthers. The most underrated franchise in professional sports, especially considering they have been to three NFC Championship games since their inception in 1995.
North Carolina also possesses the 2005 Stanley Cup Champs in the Carolina Hurricanes, and there will be constant coverage of that.
While North Carolina has no Major League Baseball team (we do have a few Minor League Baseball teams), most residents you meet and greet are Atlanta Braves fans. We are aiming to cover as much of the Braves as we can for you North Carolinian’s!
It is obvious that North Carolina cares about their sports, and they deserve a blog that can effectively cover all of them. The time has come for fans to have another avenue to rant, read, and react so make yourself at home. Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to join our staff. We are always looking for staff writers to help increase our coverage and give us an even better perspective of the many teams in the state. Thanks for reading, and we hope you enjoy the site as much as we do.
