The NC State Wolfpack is one of three schools on former minor league player, and four-star QB, Cord Sandberg’s list as he returns to football.

After spending six years in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system Cord Sandberg is looking to return to football. The former four-star quarterback has narrowed his list down to Auburn, LSU and NC State, according to Rivals.com.

Sandberg recently talked to Jeffrey Lee about his decision and what he sees at the three schools:

"“Offensively, N.C. State and Auburn are a little more similar as far as the spread (offense), and LSU is maybe working to be more of a spread,” Sandberg said. “I feel comfortable with the conversations I’ve had with all of those guys and what my role would be playing quarterback at all of those schools.”"

Sandberg, originally signed a letter of intent to play for the Mississippi State Bulldog, however he never made it to college. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies that summer in the third round and decided to pursue baseball.

During his baseball career, he bounced between different levels of the minor league system. However, he didn’t get above Double A and for his career hit .243 with 29 home runs, 173 runs batted in, 118 walks in 496 games.

It is hard to know what to expect from a 23-year old quarterback who has not played football in over six years. However, in 2012 he was a top rated prospect and Rivals.com had the dual threat quarterback ranked eighth in his class at his position.

While NC State will be competing with two SEC schools, a conference Sandberg originally chose coming out of high school, a school like NC State makes a great deal of sense. While he is likely to have stayed in shape, he will have plenty of rust to knock off as he transitions back to football.

Entering this season, the Wolfpack is set at quarterback with Ryan Finley, who is considered one of the better quarterbacks in college. He will be heading to the NFL next season which will open the door for Sandberg to compete for the starting job.

According to Lee, Sandberg will have official visits scheduled with all three schools in July and make his decision in August and enroll in college at that time.
