The Carolina Panthers may be looking to move down in order to get more picks in this deep draft.

Two days ago we started looking at draft day transactions that the Carolina Panthers might pull off. In that article we focused on the difficulties and the opportunities associated with trading up in the NFL Draft. This time we will look at the value of trading down in this draft that is pretty deep in its first two rounds.

Moving down in the draft is driven by two ideas. One idea is whether you can identify where in the draft the player you truly want might be. The other idea is what teams are willing to move up in the draft. Their own needs will drive their desperation rather than the Panthers’ targeting a particular player.

The Panthers are flexible enough this draft to be open to moves that could bring in draft picks. The Panthers probably need to come out of the first round with SOMEBODY, but that person is just as likely to be found at 15 if the Panthers miss out on the guys who don’t fall to number eight.

Picking up a second round pick would be especially good given the nature of this year’s draft class. With that in mind, let’s pull out the old value chart and see what the Panthers might be able to do.
