The North Carolina Tar Heels had to replace some key players with the 2017 recruiting class.

The North Carolina Tar Heels needed a big signing day this year given the amount of players who were moving on into the NFL and just graduation. According to ESPN.com, the Tar Heels responded with the 28th best recruiting class in the nation. A combination of three and four star recruits dotted the class.

Perhaps a better comparison would be that the Tar Heels had the third best class in the ACC Coastal Division. Both Virginia Tech and Miami enjoyed better classes. Pitt and Duke were not too far behind.

While it would be a little simplistic to match seniors to signees, let’s look at how that breakdown worked here. Naturally there will be other backups on the roster who will take starting roles this season. We can get a new idea on depth.

More from North Carolina Tar Heels

Quarterback

Lost – Mitch Trubisky (JR-RS)

Signed – No one

The Tar Heels have a fair amount of quarterbacks in the pipe if sheer number is all that mattered. They also may be looking at a bridge building graduate transfer.
