According to reports from Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, Michael Oher is still a question mark for the Carolina Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers are in the off season. Sure the NFL has another game to play this Sunday, but let’s be real. Other than some Cam Newton commercials, there will be a lack of Panthers on your television. There has been one Carolina Panther who has not been on your television for some time. That would be tackle Michael Oher, who is still technically in the league’s concussion protocol from his diagnosis back in Week 4 or thereabouts.

Oher had a huge effect on the season. The Panthers shifted right tackle Mike Remmers to shore up the blind side while juggling other line spots due to injuries. Newton continued to take hits all year and the Panthers’ running game sputtered. With each week it seemed fair to wonder, is this the week Oher returns? Will it fix anything? Will it fix everything?

The answer that we got was an injured reserve notice and even now we do not know when or if Oher is coming back. It has become almost certain that the Panthers will have to move as if he will not. Daryl Williams does not seem to be the answer or else the Panthers would have tried that solution when Williams was healthy. Therefore the answer is most likely not on the Panthers’ current roster.

The answer might be in the draft, although we are probably talking about rounds 2-4 rather than the first round. The Panthers need to better than Williams this time around.

If not the draft, then the Panthers need to drop some money in free agency on the position. Left tackles are in that sense like good kickers. You either have one or you don’t. Things are so much harder if you don’t. You just need to watch the games from this Panthers season.
