The NC State Wolfpack continue to get great play from their freshman guard.

The NC State Wolfpack are back! Do not underestimate this team. Although their best player is a freshman named Dennis Smith, Jr., this young team can hang with any other team in the nation.

On Wednesday night, N.C. State defeated No. 21 Virginia Tech, 104-78. Smith finished the game with a triple-double: 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Smith had five steals against the Hokies, also. He was working on a quadruple-double. Imagine that?

Some people may be surprised with by the score. You shouldn’t. Smith is a preseason first team all-ACC pick. He is the only freshman in the ACC who was projected to be first-team all-ACC this season.

In addition to Smith, the Wolfpack had two other 20-point scorers against Virginia Tech. Malik Abu had 20 points (made all nine field goals), 11 rebounds and three blocks. Senior guard Terry Henderson scored 22 points (made four of his eight three-point field goals) and dished two assists. Maverick Rowan added 13 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals off the bench.

N.C. State is not a laughing stock in the ACC this season. This season, the conference is up for grabs. The Wolfpack have a very good chance to sit at the top of the conference rankings by the end of the regular season.

This weekend, N.C. State faces their in-state rival, the No. 14 North Carolina Tar Heels. Expect a high-scoring game and a lot of highlights from both teams.
