The North Carolina Tar Heels did not climb very far in the weekly Associated Press Poll.

The North Carolina Tar Heels were not really rewarded by the polls this week. The Tar Heels jumped one spot to 21 in the latest Associated Press poll. This says several things. Mainly the message is nobody respects the Coastal again.

Consider Florida State. The Seminoles are twelfth in the poll with two losses. One is a blowout loss to Louisville and the other is to North Carolina. Their position is mainly due to the defeat of North Carolina by Virginia Tech and FSU’s victory over Miami when the Hurricanes were ranked tenth for no good reason.

North Carolina also beat Miami and now Virginia Tech has beaten them as well. Yet their apparent strength in the past is what keeps Florida State ranked so high. It also helps that they are playing Clemson this week and a higher rating makes that matchup look better. UNC, with a victory over FSU, is down almost ten places in the poll.

Virginia Tech is sitting on the cusp of the poll too, but the college football world has pretty much decided the Coastal is going to kill itself out. That kind of ignores the fact that Duke and Virginia are down and that Miami also seems to be attracting all the losses.

Although absent from the AP Poll, the Appalachian State Mountaineers got two votes in the Coaches Poll for this week.
