Carolina’s Cam Newton is nominated for two ESPY awards.

Cam Newton had a great 2015 NFL season. Newton led the Panthers to a 15-1 regular season record. He won the 2015 NFL MVP Award. In addition, Newton led the Panthers to the Super Bowl 50 although they lost to the Denver Broncos, 24-10.

Newton will have another chance to win individual awards. Newton is nominated for two ESPY awards, including Best Male Athlete and Best NFL Player.

The choices for Best Male Athlete have a few fan favorites. Steph Curry, LeBron James and Bryce Harper round out this category. Newton has a chance to win this award. However, it will be tough beating LeBron James especially after the memorable NBA Finals he had.

On the other hand, Newton is the favorite to win the Best NFL Player award. Despite these odds, he has tough competition from Tom Brady, J.J. Watt, Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. Brady could possibly win this award, since he is a popular athlete. However, Brady’s ‘DeflateGate’ issue will probably deflate his chances of winning the award.. The same applies to Watt as well.

Do not expect Newton to do ‘The Dab’ tonight during the airing of tonight’s ESPYs award show. Last month during a radio interview, Newton announced that he would retire his famous touchdown celebration, reported by ESPN’s David Newton. No relation, by the way.

As you get ready for the 2016 NFL season, enjoy tonight’s show. Who knows? Cam Newton might break out his new touchdown celebration dance tonight.

The award shows airs tonight at 8pm on ABC. The ESPYs will be hosted by the WWE’s John Cena. Support your local Panthers as we get closer to the season whether they win ESPYs or not.
