Super Bowl 50 will likely see the return of Thomas Davis and Jared Allen to action

The Carolina Panthers were never going to come into Super Bowl 50 weekend at full strength. It simply was never going to happen with key injuries to Bene Benwikere and Charles Tillman that were going to keep those guys out of the game. So the Panthers have made it go with Cortland Finnegan and Robert McClain.

However there were two more injuries that occurred much closer in time to the big game. Those injuries were a foot injury for Jared Allen that occurred against the Seattle Seahawks and a broken forearm for linebacker Thomas Davis that occurred during the NFC Championship Game. How are those injuries progressing?

At Super Bowl Media Day we began to get some answers even if they were similar to things we had heard before. Davis insisted that he was ready to go and would not miss perhaps the only Super Bowl he might ever see.

Davis ended up breaking his ulna, the smaller bone in the forearm, and that required a plate and twelve screws to repair. Davis and Rivera seem satisfied with how it is responding so far though Davis admitted that Monday was a light practice.

From broken arms to broken feet. Jared Allen declared himself 100% and ready to go. Like Davis, Allen noted that he did not want to miss the opportunity to have an impact in the big game. Allen was disappointed when Coach Rivera held him out of the NFC Championship Game, though Rivera had little choice there. If Allen had agitated the break against the Cardinals, he might have missed the Super Bowl altogether.

Unlike Davis, Allen does not have the full support of Rivera on whether he plays this weekend. Coach Rivera said that they would check on Allen on Friday and make a determination then. Allen Is less important to the overall Panthers effort than Davis.

The Panthers are less than a week away from Super Bowl 50.
