Amway Coaches Poll Week 12: Tar Heels #11

facebooktwitterreddit

The Week 12 Amway Coaches Poll came out yesterday and it reflected the chaos that hit college football over the weekend. Iowa, still undefeated, rose to number three. Michigan State rose to number six.

Yet the North Carolina Tar Heels witnessed some stagnation in their move up the polls. They are number eleven this week after being number twelve last week. The backlog of Big 12 teams kept them out of the top ten after Baylor defeated Oklahoma State under their third string quarterback.

This is not really a surprise for the Heels. The Heels did not get much mileage from their overtime victory over Virginia Tech. Meanwhile they are running into teams that also have one loss. The judgment seems to be that the Tar Heels are still not considered to be as good as Florida and Oklahoma State. A victory against NC State is not likely to change that viewpoint either.

The thing that would best change the poll position of the Tar Heels is beating Clemson in the conference championship game. That is the one benefit that was achieved by the victory in Blacksburg. The Tar Heels punched their ticket to Charlotte. They will get their shot the number one ranked Tigers in two weeks.

Appalachian State continues to receive votes in the others receiving votes section.

Meanwhile there is still coaching fallout going on as Syracuse has fired their coach and LSU Coach Les Miles is due to speak on his future sometime later.
