Charlotte 49ers vs Marshall Thundering Herd Preview

When the Charlotte 49ers play the Marshall Thundering Herd the amount of green and white on the field will be confusing. They are the primary colors are both teams. Through in the green grass and well it ain’t easy being green for somebody out there.

Marshall may be the biggest name to come to Charlotte this year to play the 49ers. No offense to Temple, but they do not have the tradition of ‘We Are Marshall,’ Randy Moss, Chad Pennington, and Byron Leftwich to draw on. Their team last year with Rakeem Cato looked to be headed to the big bowls before the end of the season.

If there is any game that should be the Super Bowl to the young 49ers, it would be this one. Marshall is still the favorite in the Eastern Division this year despite the loss of Cato and others. They also have to come to Charlotte to work their magic, as opposed to Charlotte’s late season trip to Kentucky later this year.

Opponent: Marshall Thundering Herd (7-1, 4-0 CUSA)
Date: October 31
Time: 3:30 PM
TV: WCCB
Venue: McColl-Richardson Field

Trick or treat? The 49ers play the high powered Marshall offense driven by quarterback Chase Litton. That means the 49er game plan has to be organized around keeping Marshall off the field on offense.

The way to do this is to keep Kalif Phillips running towards the sticks. Phillips is well on his way to a thousand yards this season, and the 49ers should keep on giving him the ball in this one.

On the other hand, Marshall will try to play to form and simply blow the 49ers away. The 49ers have not been a good comeback team this year, and an early hole might prove too much for them to climb out of.

The 49ers will need to keep the safeties at home to avoid big plays to Deandre Reeves. The road to victory for Charlotte does not lie with the arm of Lee McNeill.

Prediction: 40-10 Marshall
