Kam Chancellor: Fined for Ryan Kalil hit

Ryan Kalil probably feels a little better today. All week the Panthers center has been making the radio circuit and people have asked him about the hit that Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawks put on him.

He has admitted to being razzed by teammates about the play that took him off the field for a down before he came back. Kalil was fortunate to only have the wind knocked out of him when speared by Chancellor in order to prevent Kalil from throwing any more blocks.

Well the NFL has now spoken and decided that Chancellor’s hit on Kalil was out of line. The Seahawks safety was fined $23,152 according to Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. That amount is probably a percentage of a game check in order to get such a weird number.

Chancellor has been the antagonist of the Panthers during the past few games with the Seahawks. Last year the Panthers-Seahawks playoff game was a one man Chancellor show. It included him vaulting over the Panthers offensive line to try and block field goals and then returning an interception for a touchdown to seal the game.

He did not have quite the experience last Sunday. Although still a tackling force, Chancellor’s hit on Kalil was about the most significant thing that he did during that game.

The only other Chancellor appearance that bears mention is the arguments that occurred between Richard Sherman and the two safeties following the winning Greg Olsen touchdown.

The Seahawks beat the 49ers last night, but they still have work to do to get back in the playoff picture. At least the Panthers own a clear tiebreaker over the Seahawks. They may not play again this season, but at least there is a good chance that the next game would be in Charlotte.
