Week 4 AP Football Poll: State Hangs In, Duke Out

facebooktwitterreddit

The new AP Football Poll is a new low for the schools for North Carolina. Not only did Duke leave the others receiving votes column, but NC State saw a decrease in their number of votes. I have no real explanation for that other than other teams are generating more buzz than the Wolfpack right now. The ACC also lost Georgia Tech to the twenties, which may have devalued the Coastal Division as a whole.

More from North Carolina State Wolfpack

The non Power 5 conferences again are only represented by independent BYU. The Cougars are sitting at number 22 right now. Houston, Memphis, Temple, and Boise State got votes but are not in the poll itself.

North Carolina’s win over Illinois attracted no votes from the Associated Press. The Tar Heels were hurt by South Carolina’s crushing loss to Georgia over the weekend. A victory over Delaware next weekend will not raise the Tar Heels’ chances of attracting votes in the short term.

More from Old North Banter

The Northwestern Wildcats jumped to Number 17 after their victory over the Duke Blue Devils, which also knocked Duke from consideration by the voters. Georgia Tech will still be a top 20 team when they play Duke, but a Duke victory would likely take the Yellow Jackets out of the poll by the time they play North Carolina. It would also not be a guarantee to get Duke into the poll, probably just enough to gather votes again.

State got dealt a blow to poll rising as Louisville will likely be 1-3 or 0-4 when they play the Wolfpack so that victory will not gain much momentum.
