Carolina Panthers Season Report- 10/15

facebooktwitterreddit

The Carolina Panthers are 3-2-1 so far on the season, which puts them slightly over .500. More importantly it puts them in first place in the NFC South division. Division winners are guaranteed a playoff spot regardless of their record. This is good, because Carolina is behind Dallas, Detroit, Green Bay, Philadelphia, Arizona, and San Francisco in the conference right now and not in line for a wild card bid.

More from Carolina Panthers

The most important thing to the Panthers right now is that the New Orleans Saints are 2-3 and the Atlanta Falcons are 2-4. The Panthers have yet to play either the Falcons or Saints this season, and keeping their records low may become important if the Panthers split those games. The Panthers also have one more match with Tampa Bay, and they need to win that game to seal a season sweep over a disappointing Buccaneer team.

Neither the Saints nor Falcons have played with a lot of consistency. Both have only one win over a team not named Tampa Bay. The Falcons offensive line is still questionable and the New Orleans defense is suffering from brain farts. The division has not really lived up to the three-headed monster that it was billed to be at the start of the season. Either team could eventually pull it together, so enjoy this while it lasts.

  • Of the Panthers’ early games, the Pittsburgh game will probably feature as the game that the Panthers will want back the most. Now, with Pittsburgh losing to Tampa and being blown out by Cleveland, it looks particularly inexplicable.

This week the Panthers go to Lambeau Field in Green Bay to face Julius Peppers. The Panthers are (2-0) in games against the NFC North, and still unbeaten on FOX broadcasts. The Panthers will need to manufacture a running game, perhaps with Cam Newton again, to keep the ball out of the hands of Aaron Rodgers.
