FBS Preview: College Football Week 8

facebooktwitterreddit

Week 8 is another week dominated by conference play. Duke, fresh of its Coastal division coup over Georgia Tech, will have to defend that newly gained status against Virginia, which has a win over Louisville already this season. Speaking of Louisville, the Cardinals will welcome the North Carolina State Wolfpack this weekend. As for the East Carolina Pirates, they are off again this week before a Thursday night showdown with UConn on October 23. Here is the Week 8 FBS Preview.

More from Appalachian State Mountaineers

Saturday – 10/18

Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-4) vs Syracuse Orange (2-4)

Time: 12:00 PM
TV: RSN

Both the Deacs and the Orange are looking for their first conference win of the season, and both are coming off a loss to Florida State. Both gave up big point totals to the Seminoles, though the Syracuse offense scored more points than the Wake Forest offense did. Can the Wake defense suppress the score enough?

Duke Blue Devils (5-2) vs Virginia Cavaliers (4-2)

Time: 12:30 PM
TV: ACC Network

The Devils knocked off the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta last week, but they are not the team coming into this game with the higher conference record. Virginia has wins over Pitt and Louisville and are technically first place in the Coastal. Can Duke beat the 1st place team in the Coastal for a second straight week?

Appalachian State Mountaineers (1-5) at Troy Trojans (1-5)

Time: 3:00 PM
TV: ESPN3

These are two teams that are probably glad to see each other on the schedule. Troy is coming off its first win of the year against conference foe New Mexico State, while App is still stinging from its loss to FCS Liberty. One of these teams will leave the game with their second win of the year.

    Time: 3:30 PM
    TV: RSN

The Louisville Cardinals were beaten in their first meeting with Clemson, while the NC State Wolfpack lost the battle of the Florida transfer quarterbacks. Louisville has been unbeatable at home, and they possess a disciplined defense. NC State is looking for a way to put 40 points back on the board after two weeks of not doing so.

North Carolina Tar Heels (2-4) vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-1)

    Time: 7:00 PM
    TV: ESPNU

The margin of defeat has shrunk to almost nothing for the Heels. Hopefully some of their lessons from the Notre Dame game will sink in and stay with them. Tech will be looking to keep up with the Coastal division leaders and they had little problem running all over the Tar Heels last year.
