At game time it was a perfect autumn day. With mild temperatures and partly cloudy skies hovering over Carter-Finley Stadium, one couldn’t ask for a better day for football. However, looks can be deceiving. Even though Halloween is still several weeks away, the tricks have been coming fast and furious. Beginning with Florida State, peaking with the Clemson debacle and now Boston College.

Things can’t get much worse can it?

The game began with an offensive fury. Boston College jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. NC State’s Tony Creecy tied the score minutes later with a 2 yard run. BC countered with a 47 yard touchdown run. Then with 2:08 remaining in the 1st quarter NC State’s Jacoby Brissett threw a 16 yard TD to receiver David Grinnage. NC State 14 – Boston College 14

Boston College would go on to take a 21-14 halftime lead.

The second half ended as quickly as it began.   After Brissett was intercepted on the second play when BC lineman Brian Mihalik picked off a screen pass, the game was delayed for 56 minutes because of lightning in the area. The second half was played in wet gloomy conditions, not unlike the mood of fans that came to see the Pack get its first conference win.

After an Eagle field goal and a 4th quarter 26 yard rushing touchdown by running back Tyler Murphy, Boston College led NC State 30-14. This proved to be the final score as the Pack failed to mount any serious threat of a comeback in the second half.

More from North Carolina State Wolfpack

Chalk this one up as another head scratcher of a game.   Another lost opportunity.

Boston College QB Tyler Murphy rushed for 132 yards, 2 touchdowns and had 101 yards passing to lead the Eagles handing coach Dave Doeren his 11th consecutive ACC loss. The Wolfpack (4-3, 0-3) lost its third straight game all of which were to conference foes.

BC finished with 310 yards rushing to the Wolfpack’s dismal 43 yards.

Jacoby Brissett finished 14 of 30 for 174 yards, one interception and was sacked four times.

Late in the 4th quarter Wolfpack defensive lineman T. Y. McGill provided some defensive excitement for those who waited around to see it. Bursting through the left side of the line, McGill floored BC running back Jon Hilliman in pancake fashion. Definitely one for ESPN’s best plays of the week.
