The Charlotte Hornets announced the addition of another big man on their roster.

The team announced the signing Jason Maxiell today, but terms of the deal were not disclosed per team policy.

A nine-year veteran of the league, Maxiell spent last season in Orlando, playing 14 minutes a game in just 34 games for the Magic.

In that time he averaged just over 3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

  • As for career stats, he’s started in 188 of his 557 games played in and averages 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

He also has a career shot percentage of .501.

The addition of Maxiell may sound like good news to Charlotte’s resident big men, Al Jefferson and Bismack Biyombo, who need some major veteran frontcourt help coming off the bench.

He may not be a potent scoring threat, but he’s a big body that can come in and maybe set a few screens and play down low if he’s in good enough shape.

That said, Maxiell’s current contract with the Hornets is reportedly not guaranteed, so it’s a question mark of whether he’ll actually make the final roster or not.

The former Cincinnati Bearcat was the 26th overall pick of the 2005 NBA Draft, being selected to the Detroit Pistons, where he spent eight seasons before moving to Orlando.

He’s also known for his marriage to “Basketball Wives L.A.” star Brandi Maxiell.

The signing now puts the Charlotte training camp roster at 18.
