Winston-Salem Open This Week at Wake Forest University

A week before tennis fans from all over the country flock to Flushing Meadows and spend their hard-earned money on US Open tickets to see the sport’s best players, the ATP tour hits North Carolina for the Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest University.  While the heavyweight fighters Murray, Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal will not be making an appearance, tennis pros from across the globe are battling in an exciting tournament.

The third round for Men’s Singles began today and we’ve already seen quite a few upsets.  In the second round, Number-2 seed Andreas Seppi was defeated yesterday by American Steve Johnson.  The third round today began with 6-seed Sam Querrey beating 11-seed Jarkko Nieminen.

Perhaps one of the most exciting players in the tournament is Frenchmen Gael Monfils, or “La Monf” to many of his fans.  He’ll be squared off against 4-seed Tommy Robredo this evening in what should be one of the more entertaining matches of the tourney.

Make sure to check out the last few rounds of the Winston-Salem Open before you catch them at America’s tennis grand slam event next week.
