When Kalen McCain finished his work out last week, he had one order from his coaches. To call North Carolina State running backs coach Des Kitchings back.

He was rewarded greatly for returning the phone call as the Wolfpack extended a scholarship offer to the six foot, one inch tall and 175 pound safety. The class of 2014 safety made an unofficial visit to to the NCSU campus in Raleigh this past weekend.

McCain currently has only two offers. One from North Carolina State and the other came from Louisville. He has slight interests in Duke, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech, but has not received an offer from either of the three schools just yet.

With only two offers and a little less than a year left before signing day, McCain will more than likely wait his recruiting period out until late in the process. Being from Durham it should only be a matter of time before his talent is recognized by North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, and East Carolina.

NC State and Dave Doeren are off to a quick start in the 2014 recruiting process and are not slowing down one second. 2014 will be the first class under Doeren that he is responsible for. Many of the 2013 commits were recruited under Tom O’Brien before he was fired.

In 2012, he had thirty-six tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
